Kate joined HKSA in 2010, after clerking first for Justice
John Warner (retired), and Justice Michael Wheat of the
Montana Supreme Court. Kate is a 2008 graduate of the
University of Montana School of Law. During law school she
served as a law clerk for the Honorable Donald Molloy, judge
for the United States District Court for the District of
Montana, assisted in teaching Torts to first year students,
and was a member of the staff of the Montana Law Review.
Kate is admitted to practice in the state courts of Montana
and Oregon, and is a member of the Montana State Bar, Oregon
State Bar, and the American Bar Association.
Kate is originally from Overland Park, Kansas. She earned a
Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Baker University in
Baldwin City, Kansas in 1993 and a Master’s degree in
Environmental Biology from Emporia State University in 1996
where she studied the effects of habitat fragmentation on
mammal populations. Kate then worked for the National Park
Service for ten years as an interpretive ranger, an
emergency medical technician, and a law enforcement ranger
in Grand Teton, Hawaii Volcanoes, and Rocky Mountain
National Parks.
Kate enjoys mountain biking, telemark and cross-country
skiing, hiking, reading, traveling and spending time with
her husband, two daughters, and two dogs.
